Shorewood approves 700-foot buffer between cannabis businesses and schools
September 9, 2024
Click here for the Sun Sailor story about the Planning Commission’s work to define Shorewood’s cannabis regulations. As a planning commissioner, I advocated for more stringent language and common-sense regulations to locate cannabis businesses further away from the high school. Per the Sun Sailor, “The only three parcels in Shorewood that would allow for retail cannabis business if the city had approved an 1,000-foot buffer between cannabis businesses and schools. The properties are at the intersection of Vine Hill Road and the Highway 7 frontage road”. By counterintuitively proposing a lower buffer, I was able to increase the possibility that cannabis sales may more appropriately end up at the Cub Foods site.
